Phil Hellmuth Out-Does Himself at 2008 WSOPE.
I remember a few years ago when Phil Hellmuth publicly stated during that year’s particular WSOP that he was striving to become a “new and improved” Phil. A kind of Phil that would end the bitching, end the ranting, and all in all just end the drama bombs he has continually dropped at poker tournaments all around the world. He bragged about how he was taking Zen classes and becoming a better person via spirituality. However, I’m beginning to wonder just how many people have actually seen this side of the camera-loving whore we all love to hate….
I only say this because I really can’t believe the new low that I heard Hellmuth stooped too yesterday during the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe. After a string of bad hands and sick beats in the £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. event, Hellmuth got up from his seat and began to berate himself, then his fellow players, and ultimately the dealer at his table. His actions got so bad that he actually made the aforementioned dealer break down and start crying! Yikes.
The tournament director was soon called over to Hellmuth’s location and proceeded to analyze what exactly was going on. After Phil then decided to take shots at the TD, he would be given a stern warning to calm down or be forced to sit out. The director then consoled his dealer, massaging her shoulders and assuring her that everything was going to be ok. The blowup got the attention of everyone in the room, and naturally Phil played the situation up nicely for the camera crew filming every last bit of the ranting Ultimate Bet representative.
After the mess eventually sorted itself out and play resumed on as normal, action would pick up considerably. Unfortunately for Phil Hellmuth, he would later go out in a disappointing 12th place, just missing the final table. Hellmuth is still looking to add a piece of WSOPE hardware to his already-impressive collection of 11 WSOP bracelets.
