John Phan Takes Down 2008 WPT Legends.

John Phan once again brought his top game to the 2008 WPT Legends of Poker this week, making the final table seem so simple en route to taking down his final 5 opponents with relative ease.
The Razor, as he’s known on the circuit, entered the final TV table with over $2.4 million in chips - good enough for the chip lead and a distinct advantage over his adversaries. Over the next few hours, he picked his spots wisely and made some impressive moves against some first-class opponents, two of which were very well-known online poker players.
By the time it was said and done, it would be Amit Makhija that would face Phan heads-up. What transpired from there was something of WPT legend. Back and forth these two went, and for the next 3 hours Phan and Makhija would trade blows and swap the chip lead almost endlessly. However, after a brief double-up that left Makhija with a lot of momentum just a few hands before, he made an uncharacteristic move that saw him push all-in preflop with K 7 suited. Phan reluctantly made the call with a pocket pair of 3’s and the race was definitely on.
On a flop of Q 5 5, the crowd began going wild for both competitors. Only two more cards to sweat and John Phan would have the 2008 Legends title. The turn hit an Ace, giving John’s opponent even more outs to steal the pot and his championship away. However, when the river hit a blank 10, John Phan was ecstatic as he did something he couldn’t do at the LAST WPT final table appearance - WIN!
John Phan took home just over 1 million dollars for his 1st place finish, while his online opponent Amit Makhija took home half a million for his efforts. I can’t wait to see how this one plays out when the WPT broadcasts it on FSN later this year.
